A wonderful Spring short-break!
Monday 23 April 2017
If you’re looking for a city break with the right blend of culture, nightlife and quaint surroundings, Krakow is hard to beat. While you can see traces of the city’s WWII history, Poland’s former royal capital is also a celebration of the present. Step onto Europe’s largest medieval town square, explore regal Wawel Castle, and take it all in from a quiet café. Come evening, you’ll have your pick of cabaret bars, theatres, clubs and restaurants.
Please join Solent Events on Tour on our first visit to this beautiful Polish city, as you’ll be well-looked after from start to finish, whether travelling on your own, as a couple or in small group! If you like Prague or Budapest, you’ll LOVE Krakow!
The Old Town (Stare Miasto), and in particular the main square (Rynek Glowny) are just so impressive! This vast space was the largest square of medieval Europe, and retains much of that grandeur today. It is dominated by the Sukiennice, the large cloth hall at its very centre (now home to a market and the Gallery) but also plays host to the sky-scraping St Mary’s Church (Kosciol Mariacki) and the equally tall Wieza Ratuszowa, a seventy-metre tower that is the only par remaining of the 14th century town hall. Both tower and church offer fine views over the city. South of the Stare Miasto sits the imposing Wawel Hill, the long time home to Poland’s rulers. The royal castle is also here, as is Krakow’s cathedral. You can buy your own piece of luxury w
South of the castle hill is Kazimierz, the district that was the home of Krakow’s large Jewish community until the Nazis destroyed its people in the gas chambers of Auschwitz and Birkenau. Modern Kazimierz is increasingly lively and host to a number of good restaurants, but its narrow streets lined with synagogues, can still radiate an aura of sadness.
There is lots to see and do in Krakow, but if you would like to join us for a visit to Auschwitz and Birkenau, we will be organising as optional full-day tour on Day 3.
If shopping is high on your list of things to do in Krakow, herbal vodka isn’t the only popular golden nectar in Poland. Poland as a while is renowned for its spectacular ‘amber’ and the craftsmen who handsomely shape the fossilised resin into unique and coveted pieces of jewellery. The best place to begin is the Cloth Hall in the centre of the market square, where you will find that prices are surprisingly competitive. There are also many galleries around the Old Town to visit for a great price.
You do not have to worry about a thing! With just four pickups from Gosport, Lee on the Solent, Stubbington and Fareham on our luxury executive coach, hostess service and travel treats, you will arrive at our Heathrow Airport Lounge, totally relaxed and ready for an exciting short break to Poland.

Proposed Itinerary (exact times to be confirmed)
Day 1 – Travel to London Heathrow by Luxury coach from our four local pick-ups and relax in an airport lounge before our 08:55 BA scheduled flight to Krakow. Arrival at Krakow International Airport 1225 (local time). Transfer by coach with local escort to our hotel is approximately 30 minutes.
The rest of the afternoon is at leisure to relax in the hotel or to explore the surrounding area of the Old Town.
A 3-course buffet dinner will be served in the hotel this evening.
Day 2 – Breakfast in the hotel. Our exciting short break in Krakow begins with an ½ day excursion to the spectacular and famous Wieliczka Salt Mine, located in the town of Wieliczka in southern Poland, lying within the Kraków metropolitan area. Opened in the 13th century, the mine produced table salt continuously until 2007, as one of the world’s oldest salt mines in operation. The mine is currently one of Poland’s official national Historic Monuments whose attractions include dozens of statues and four chapels carved out of the rock salt by the miners, as well as supplemental carvings made by contemporary artists.
On return to the hotel, the rest of the day and evening is at leisure, perhaps to start making use of your Krakow Pass and to sample some local cuisine at a nearby restaurant, in the hotel OR join Lin with a small group for a local evening meal.
Day 3 – Breakfast in the hotel. Full day at leisure to explore the city to make full use of your City Pass, OR an optional full-day guided excursion to Auschwitz. All over the world, Auschwitz has become a symbol of terror, genocide, and the Holocaust. It was established by Germans in 1940, in the suburbs of Oswiecim, a Polish city that was annexed to the Third Reich by the Nazis. Its name was changed to Auschwitz, which also became the name of Konzentrationslager Auschwitz.
This tour will not be for everyone, which is why it is optional, but there could be 5 reasons why one should go: It makes history far more personal; It promotes gratitude; It educates; It gives hope; It makes us remember. The evening is at leisure OR join Lin with a small group for an evening meal.
Day 4 – Breakfast in the hotel. Full day at leisure or join Lin for a final adventure in the city. Luggage can be securely stored in the hotel before leaving for the airport at around 1830
