Celebrate a Right Royal August Away-Day in London with Solent Events & Leisure!
For the first time ever, The Garden at Buckingham Palace will open to visitors on certain days from 9 July until 19 September in 2021 for viewing and picnicing. You may have seen all the media coverage in recent weeks, when their website was attracting thousands of bookings within the first few minutes of going live, with most days selling out immediately!
BUT, fear not …. to save you the disappointment or hassle of arranging your own trip to London for this unique experience, Solent Events has managed to secure tickets for the gardens in mid-August, along with a unique guided tour of Royal London, a traditional 2-course Lunch with Prosecco and a top-notch Blue Badge guide to keep us amused all day! Of course this is likely be the one and only time you will be able to enjoy the full extent of these Royal gardens and enjoy an Afternoon Tea Picnic if you so wish, on the sweeping lawns!
Our wonderful day in London begins at the highly acclaimed ‘Kennedys of London Restaurant’ for a lunch of the BEST Fish & Chips you have ever tasted! Do not worry if you do not eat fish, there is an alternative to whet your appetite!
Established 150 years ago as a traditional delicatessen butcher’s and originally renowned for their sausages and pies, Kennedy’s have maintained true British traditions, serving top quality, fresh fish from British waters and cooking it to perfection. Furthermore, Kennedy’s has many associations with historical figures, all of whom will be uncovered by our Blue Badge guide during our guided coach tour of Royal London. Our guide will tell the story and show us, where the Royals have lived and loved over the past 1000 years. As usual, there will be loads of great stories and interesting anecdotes to keep us amused!
Our guided tour will conclude mid-afternoon at Buckingham Palace, where you will be free to wander and explore the garden’s winding paths at your own pace, until early evening. After some great tips of how to manage your visit, our guide will take us from the coach to the garden, where we will bid our farewells.
On this unique occasion, you will be able to bring your own Picnic/ Afternoon Tea into the gardens (see Picnic Notes), or purchase delicious tea items from the garden catering stands, whilst experiencing the beauty and calm atmosphere of this walled oasis, which happens to be the largest private garden in central London!
The many features to discover include a 156-metre Herbaceous Border, the Horse Chestnut Avenue, the plane trees planted by Queen Victoria & Prince Albert, plus the famous manmade lake with its majestic island … and home to the Buckingham Palace royal bees!
As the Buckingham Palace State Apartments will only be open for weekend guided tours of limited group-sizes at a mighty £60pp entry fee, we have decided to give the Palace itself a miss for this year!
As this will be a very popular Away-Day, with limited numbers, please make sure you book as soon as possible!

Food and non-alcoholic drinks
Plastic glasses & paper cups
Tableware & cutlery
Small picnic baskets & cool bags
Blankets & small foldable chairs (see specifics below)
Personal and golfing-sized umbrellas
NB. All items must be no larger than 55cm x 35cm in order to pass through airport-style security scanners.
No alcohol consumption
No sharp-bladed knives
No parasols, windbreakers or gazebos
No ball games or similar
Bringing a chair (see images below): Chairs & picnic containers can be stored in the coach luggage compartment until required at the Palace.
Your chair needs to be like the BLUE CHAIR illustrated below, which folds into a bag and can be carried over your shoulder, as the maximum dimensions of the X ray machines are 55cm by 35cm, but items can be ‘longer’ – like golfing brollies & folding camping chairs.
Unfortunately THE PINK CHAIR DESIGN IS NOT PERMITTED, which, although looks quite small, it’s too big to go through the x-ray machine.
