The moat was previously the setting for London’s world famous display of ceramic poppies to mark the centenary of the First World War. Created by artists Paul Cummins & Tom Piper, over, 888,000 ceramic poppies filled the Tower’s famous moat between July & November 2014.
As another historic year in 2022 progresses, the same moat will be transformed into a stunning and colourful natural landscape, filled with vibrant flowers.

Since the 13th century when Henry III decided to expand the Tower defences, the moat has been used to keep people out, but now, for the very first time, visitors will be able to go into the moat (with easy ramp access) and enjoy views of the Tower from within.

The floral displays will mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee by celebrating the transformation power of nature and green spaces – something we have all come to appreciate after the past couple of years.
As we enter the Tower of London, our guide will tell stories from William the Conqueror to the last state prisoner Rudolf Hess.
You will see the Yeoman Warders, known as the Beefeaters – the ceremonial guardians of the Tower and the legendary ravens, who have been setting up home there since 1883!  You’ll see the Crown Jewels, used in every coronation. You’ll ponder the horror of arriving at the Traitor’s Gate, hear stories of the Bloody Tower, discover the “privilege” of a Tower execution and contemplate some ghosts! You will fail to come away with a deep understanding of 1,000 years of history, with the Tower of London being a palace, a prison, a fortress and a notoriously, a place of execution.

The day does not end there, as we will have time for a cup of tea at leisure, in one of the many cafés surrounding the Tower. 

Then, for the perfect end to the perfect day, a complimentary glass of wine & nibbles will be served during our journey home!
