7 days/6 nights

The Cinque Terre is a rugged portion of coast and UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Liguria region of Italy. “The Five Lands” is composed of five villages set amid some of the most  dramatic and stunning coastal scenery you could ever imagine  … visit these beautiful villages with Solent Events and then take yourself back in time with two nights in the CASTEL BRANDO – a REAL Italian Castle, nestled at the base of the Dolomites, just one hour north of Venice …….

Cinque Terre is a string of beautiful, centuries-old seaside villages on the rugged Italian Riviera coastline. In each of the 5 quaint little towns, colourful houses and vineyards cling to steep terraces, harbours are filled with fishing boats and trattorias turn out fantastic seafood specialties – along with the Liguria region’s famous sauce, ‘pesto’. The Sentiero Azzurro cliffside hiking trail links the villages and offers sweeping sea vistas, but don’t worry, we won’t be hiking!

We will staying in the Italian Riviera town of Viareggio, at the beautiful 4* Palace Hotel, right opposite the beach. Founded as an outlet to the sea for the Republic of Lucca, Viareggio is world famous as a seaside resort, for its nautical history and its yearly Carnival. Pisa, Lucca and Torre del Lago Puccini are all nearby, with the latter being home to the picturesque house of Italian Opera composer, Giacomo Puccini and the lakeshore opera festival, dedicated to him.
Viareggio is the second largest town within the province of Lucca and is a popular, up-market Italian resort. It is a major part of the Tuscan Riviera, known as Versilia, which has a sandy beach stretching for more than 20km. As one of the most traditional and famous resorts in Tuscany, it offers the best of everything – the perfect coastal base to relax or tour; excellent beaches for swimming & sunbathing; upmarket shopping in the numerous designer clothes & shoe shops …. and it’s also a paradise for nature lovers.

The town centre is modern and set in an American ‘grid style’ arrangement. As you would expect, there are a plethora of bars and restaurants, craft and gift shops to tempt you. The shopping centre has pedestrian only streets and has some excellent and unusual shops. here is also a permanent market with some interesting stalls. Lots to do and lots to see in Viareggio!

4* PALACE HOTEL, Viareggio
This superb hotel, with a Liberty style façade is located on one of Viareggio’s most attractive stretches, opposite the typically Italian beach, adorned with sun-loungers & shades for relaxing & safe swimming. It is also ideally situated for an after-dinner walk, exercise & an Italian ice-cream – typically eaten late into the evening! Tennis courts, bikes to hire, pizzerias, gelaterias, the harbour and a cool, peaceful green area of pines are also nearby. You can also enjoy fantastic views from the pretty Roof Garden Terrace – and gorgeous sunsets!

One of our exciting excursions will be to PORTOFINO ….
Even the trees are handsome in Portofino! This small picturesque fishing village along the northern coastline, southeast of Genoa is a perfectly coiffured coastal village sitting on its own peninsula. Hotels are headily priced, but a drink by Portofino’s yacht-filled harbour or a stroll around its designer shops can be easily enjoyed on a day trip.
Pastel-colored houses, high-end boutiques & seafood restaurants fringe its Piazzetta – a small cobbled square overlooking the harbour, which is lined with dreamy super-yachts. A path leads from the Piazzetta to Castello Brown, a 16th-century fortress with museum, art exhibitions and panoramic views of the town overlooking the Ligurian Sea.

From the Italian Riviera and Cinque Terre, we travel north east to the Veneto region and the spectacular Castel Brando. This very special hotel, situated in the heart of the Italian countryside is a 15th century Castle set on a promontory overlooking the quaint medieval village of Cison Valmarino. It is a splendid example of an historical and artistic restoration of one of the largest castles in Europe. Castel Brando is an amazingly stylish hotel and the experience of staying in such a magnificent castle, will be truly memorable. You will also discover the beauty and fascination of the heart of Veneto with our guide, Wendy – known as Italian tourism’s best-kept secret – and we do know, as we were lucky enough to stay in the castle for 5 days in 2016!
Veneto is the heart of Prosecco land and is bordered to the north by the spectacular Dolomites, to the east by the Adriatic, and to the west by Lake Garda. The historic city of Venice, just 1-hour directly south of Cison Valmarino, is the jewel in the crown of this area and from where we fly home .
