What a wonderful Away-Day we had to the National Breeding Centre for Guide Dogs. It was a very special experience for everyone and even the sun shone all day!
After an introduction and a video, we were taken on a tour of the centre in two groups. We saw gorgeous puppies as they arrived at the centre from their volunteer birthing homes, where they will learn to socialise and grow, gaining experience of everyday sights and sounds helping them to develop the skills they need to be a guide dog. We saw the National Breeding Centre going through its daily activities and discovered how the latest technology and innovations are used in the breeding.
Knowledgeable volunteer Tour Guides took us along the specially built walkways, enabling us to view the work without disturbing either the dogs or staff. The Sensory Tunnel experience gave us a brief insight into walking and living with sight loss.. We learned how people with sight loss get about so well and saw how they coped on various video screen dotted around the centre. Most importantly, we had the opportunity to meet a couple of retired dogs, who accompanied our groups on the tour.
At the end of the tour we were served complimentary refreshments of delicious homemade cake with tea & coffee. The little shop gave us the opportunity to purchase gifts, pet products and mementoes, with all profits going to the organisation.
Lunch was taken beside the canal, at the award-winning gastro-pub, The Moorings. An excellent choice with attentive, friendly service, excellent tasty food and a wonderful ambience. Solent Events will definitely be back!
As there is no charge for visits to the Breeding Centre Solent Events included a donation in the Away-Day price, which they were most grateful for. Personal donations on the day were also gratefully received, as they receives no government funding and so rely entirely on the generosity of the public by donation, bequests and fund raising.
ALL SOLENT EVENTS FUND-RAISING ON THE COACH AND FROM RAFFLES FOR 2017 will go to this worthwhile charity and we look forward to receiving any contributions you may wish to donate.
What Our Customers Are Saying
Don’t just take it from us, let our customers do the talking!
We so enjoyed ourselves on Tuesday Lin, and it was a “mystery” right up until 3pm – well done. I’m so glad I found Solent Events. It’s so much more fun going with other like-minded people & takes the responsibility out of driving.Maureen Colyer
Dear Lin, Thank you for sending the photographs from ‘Collabro’ at the BIC. We had a lovely first outing with Solent Events. Thanks for all the hard work you put into it.Linda Hunt
