A rural jewel set between the sparkling Lakes, Como and Iseo, the Imagna Valley is a lush green oasis that remains relatively untouched by tourism. Known for its delicious local cheeses as well as its soothing thermal waters, it’s the perfect place to relax and unwind whilst surrounded by magnificent vistas and evocative history. Dotted with ancient hamlets, unique traditional houses and Romanesque architecture, the settlements of the Imagna Valley are surprising for their elegant minimalism and it’s the perfect setting for Italian lovers and Solent Events on Tour!
Northern Italy is well known and much-visited, thanks to its beautiful landscapes and the stunning lakes that sit in the Lombardy region. However, despite the hordes of tourists that flock to the sparkling waters of Lake Como (and rightly so, for it is so beautiful), it’s surprisingly easy to get off the tourist trail for the perfect Italian holiday – and we have found this little gem in the Imagna Valley!
Due to its Alpine location and abundance of cattle, unique and delicious cheeses are produced here – such as the soft and creamy stracchino. Along with the local Italian wines, we will experience this unique craft with a cheese tasting experience during one of our excursions. We will also learn how to make casoncelli, a delicious stuffed pasta typical of the Bergamo region. An intriguing sweet and savoury stuffing is used to fill the handmade pasta, engulfing you to the heart of the Imagna Valley, via its cuisine.
Lunch at an authentic trattoria, located in an historic building in the mountain village of Roncaglia, is also on the agenda. This wonderful restaurant takes pride in serving dishes from the local tradition using produce from the valley, created with age-old recipes of the region. You’ll love it!
We will stay at the 4* Miramonti Hotel Resort & Spa, Rota d’Imagna in the Imagna Valley. The hotel with its 35 comfortable rooms and suites with breath-taking views over the Imagna Valley, is a fusion between tradition and modernism, a perfect mix for memorable holidays nestled in nature. This luxurious hotel and spa is in a stunning location to not only enjoy unforgettable views and excellent regional cuisine, but is perfectly located for visits to beautiful Bergamo, the stunning Lake Como and other wonderful excursions we have planned for you.
Famed the world over for its exquisite beauty, the jaw-dropping Lake Como is hemmed by forested hills and snow-tipped Alpine peaks. The lake’s shore is studded with achingly pretty towns and villages, home to old fishermen’s cottages and tiny lanes. We will explore the typical lakeside village of Varenna, where it feels as if time stands still, before taking to the gentle turquoise waters on a boat trip to Bellagio. Bellagio is known as the ‘pearl of Lake Como’, with its elegant churches, gardens and historic character. We may even glimpse one of the most famous homes on the lake, the eighteenth-century Villa Oleandra in Lagli – owned by George Clooney!
