Our exciting 17-day adventure to Sri Lanka begins when we arrive at Colombo Airport (Bandaranaike Intl). Within 35 minutes of leaving the airport, we will be relaxing by the pool or basking on golden sands surrounded by the rhythmic sounds of the sea in the glorious tropical Jetwing Beach Hotel.
Our journey then takes us north to the fascinating area of Dambulla, famous for the Lion Rock, caves and Dambulla Caves. Heading south to Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Yala National Park, we travel with beautiful views of the Indian Ocean along the south coast to Galle and up to Colombo.

DAY 2: 
Saturday 04 November
Negombo – 1 night  
1235   Arrive Colombo Airport
On arrival, we meet our guide and transfer northwards to our hotel in Negombo for check in (approx 10 km & 45 minutes drive).
Time to explore, relax on the beach or use the hotel facilities.

DAY 3: 
Sunday 05 November
Dambulla – 3nts
After breakfast, we proceed to the cultural triangle in Dambulla to check in the hotel and relax until the afternoon. After lunch at the hotel, a Jeep safari at Minneriya has been arranged. Located in the backwoods of the North Central Province, it is home to the famous Minneriya National Park that shelters some of the greatest
wildlife treasures of this paradise isle. The park, nourished by an ancient man-made tank, provides shelter for troupes of toque monkeys, sambar deer as well as leopards, elephants and bird-flocks including little cormorants and painted storks to name but a few. It is also renowned for the ‘Sixth Greatest Wildlife Spectacle of the World’ – the amazing phenomenon of the ‘Minneriya Elephant gathering’ that occurs annually during August – September.

DAY 4:
Monday 06 November
This morning we visit the Rock Fortress of Sigiriya. The Fortress was built on top of a monolith of red stone that dominates a harmonious set of gardens. The Sigiriya rock called the ‘Fortress in the Sky’, one of the most fantastic wonders of Sri Lanka, also known as Lion Rock because of the huge lion that used to stand at the entrance to the Palace on the summit. After returning back to the hotel for breakfast, there is time to relax until early afternoon when we head to a local restaurant for lunch, before visiting the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. Although nearly 1000 years old, the monuments are arranged in a reasonably compact garden setting ensuring their development is easy to follow.

DAY 5:
Tuesday 0
7 November 
This morning we will visit the famous Dambulla Caves, a World Heritage Site of five caves, with over 2000 square metres of painted walls & ceilings, it is the largest area of paintings found in the world. We continue to Hiriwaduna village to witness the day to day activities of a Sri Lankan village, meeting a local family to learn how to prepare an authentic Sri Lankan lunch.

DAY 6:
Wednesday 08 November
Kandy – 2 nights
This morning after breakfast we make our way to Kandy, stopping en route to will Matale Spice Garden. We will stroll through the hand reared and harvested plantations of natural spices to satisfy your 3-senses! You will also have the opportunity to try some Sri Lankan cuisine using the popular spices, have a healing massage, purchase medicinal and cosmetic products created using the natural spices (at own cost) and enjoy a delicious, included  lunch.
Continuing on to our hotel, we will have time to relax until evening before heading to the famous Temple of the Tooth Relic. Kandy is a sacred Buddhist city, known for its culture and beauty and famous for its Temple, Dalada Maligawa. Situated 500 metres above sea level, the  Tooth Relic is honoured in Esala Perahera, a religious parade with elephants, drummers and dancers performing in the streets. Located at the heart of Kandy town, right before the green waters of Nuwara Wewa, the temple’s white washed walls with tops shaped like that of clouds surround the temple grounds. Within the wall, the ancient temple stands majestically surrounded by a moat, its golden roof gleaming in the sunlight as white-clad pilgrims baring lotus blossoms crowds to admire the sacred tooth-relic of Lord Buddha. Cameras at the ready!

DAY 7:
Thursday 09 November
Today we will visit the Royal Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya, bundled with the most welcoming facilities and located just 6 miles from Kandy. It is classed as a flourishing national asset in the Wonder of Asia. Stroll through this 147 acre bliss of an experience, passing well tended lawns, pavilions and an octagon conservatory to be greeted by the vast expanse of a magnificently landscaped lush green turf. Towards the north entrance is a cafeteria where you may see the giant Javan fig tree and the orchid house nearby.  Return back to the hotel and relax for the rest of the day.

DAY 8:
Friday 10 November – 2 nights
Nuwara Eliya
Today we will board the local train reminiscent of British travel during colonial times in the late 1800’s. From our reserved seats for you we can relax whilst witnessing the beautiful forests, villages, waterfalls and tea estates during our 4-hour train journey from Kandy to Nanu Oya. NB. The train journeys in Sri Lanka are not always reliable so we will have to keep our fingers crossed, otherwise we will be travelling by coach!
On arrival, we will be transferred to our hotel, approximately 30-minutes away and situated 2,000 metres above sea level. Nuwara Eliya is the main hill station of Sri Lanka. It is known as ‘Little England’, resembling an English country town and considered an excellent location for tea production, due to the cool climate, giving the tea leaves a unique flavour. This region also offers breathtaking panoramas of colourful gardens, waterfalls and lakes, amid the sweet smell of crisp mountain air.

DAY 9:
Saturday 11 November
Nuwara Eliya
After breakfast we will be taken to a tea factory to observe the process of manufacturing tea, how it is graded culminating in the tasting of the pure Ceylon tea.  You will also have the opportunity to purchase some of the finest teas in the world to bring home. On leaving the Tea Factory, we will be taken to explore the ‘Little England’ City of Nuwara Eliya, set against beautiful backdrops of Mountains, Valleys, Waterfalls and Tea Plantations. Also known as the ‘City of Lights’, Nuwara Eliya was the favourite hill station of the British. During our exploration tour of Nuwara Eliya, we will visit the Race course, Hill Club Hotel, Gregory Lake
& Sita Amman Kovil. After returning back to the hotel we will enjoy the evening with a High tea in the hotel garden area.

DAY 10:
Sunday 12 November – 2 nights 
After breakfast we travel to Yala, with an Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home visit en route.
At the Home, the elephants are cared for after being injured and before being released back into their natural habitat when
recovered. We will watch closely as these gentle giants feed, play and mingle with each other.
After lunch at a local restaurant in Udawalawe we continue our journey to Yala, Sri Lanka’s most known national park to check-in and relaxation at our hotel.

DAY 11:
Monday 13 November 

Today we embark on an adventure of a lifetime, with a Wildlife Jeep Safari in the Yala National Park. The Park is the largest National Park in Sri Lanka and is located approximately 24km Northeast of Tissamaharama. Popular for elephant, leopard, bear, crocodile and wild boar its 97,800 hectares makes this the 2nd largest of Sri Lanka’s National Parks. Its open, undulating terrain made it famous for elephants for many years but recently, the park has also received much fame through publicity by National Geographic and the Discovery TV channels, which focused on a leopard research/conservation and identification project.
Yala is the best location to see and photograph the rare, remarkable leopards. Other highlights of Yala include herds of wild elephants, bears, wild boars, buffalos, deer, crocodiles and many species of birds. The vegetation ranges from open parkland to dense jungle. There is also an abundance of water supply for animals and
birds ranging from waterholes, streams, small lakes and lagoons. We return to our hotel for lunch and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

DAY 12:
Tuesday 14 November – 3 nights

Today we will be driven westwards, along the scenic route to Galle – approx 3-hours. On arrival, we will be transferred to our hotel in Galle. Located on the south-western tip of Sri Lanka, Galle has been heavily influenced by both Portuguese and Dutch rule and is popular with beach loving travellers and those who come to discover the UNESCO World Heritage listed Dutch Fort.

DAY 13:
Wednesday 15 November

After breakfast, we will visit the nearby town of Unawatuna, where we will experience a Sri Lankan Cooking Class, participating in the preparation of 5-6 authentic Sri Lankan dishes. Karuna the chef will take us to the Galle Market to purchase the ingredients required. After lunch in Unawatuna we return back to the hotel to relax until evening before heading to Galle Fort for an evening stroll. Galle, recognized as the Southern Capital, is home to the popular Fort Santa Cruz, listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Galle was the main seaport of Sri Lanka before Colombo and still handles shipping and cruising yachts to present. During the tour we will have the opportunity to visit Galle Fort, the Old Dutch Church and take a walk along the Ramparts.

Thursday 16 & Friday 17 November

We will enjoy the next two days completely at leisure where we can chill out on the beach, in the Spa or beside one of the two hotel swimming pools.

DAY 16
Saturday 18 November – 1 night 
After breakfast we will return to Colombo where we will spend our last night in Sri Lanka, a 2-3 hour journey. 
As capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo has a long standing history – particularly in trade routes. It has previously been ruled by the British, Portuguese and Dutch and to this day, one can still see the alternative influence these countries had on Colombo’s architecture.
