Our journey northwards begins with a direct rail trip on one of Sweden’s X2000 tilting trains, reaching Östersund for an overnight stop at the 4* Clarion Hotel, conveniently located near the centre of Östersund.
Wednesday 15 June ÖSTERSUND to JOKKMOKK B, D
Today we join the Inlandsbanan tourist train (TBC due to unknown timetable for 2022), which travels along tracks through the heart of the untamed Swedish wilderness. Whether by train or by coach, looking out for wildlife as we trundle through deep forests, across streams and viewing the stunning Scandinavian scenery, we will witness unspoilt nature in the raw. Crossing the Arctic Circle is a big highlight of our tour and of course a must for the album. En route we also stop at quaint remote stations for meal breaks and photo opportunities. On arrival in Jokkmokk, the heart of Swedish Lapland, we will transfer to our hotel for one night. At the end an invigorating day, an excursion into the Sami wilderness to view &photograph the spectacular ‘midnight sun’ will be the perfect end to a perfect day.
Thursday 16 June JOKKMOKK to UPPSALA
Sleeper Train 1n B
After a free morning in the Sami town of Jokkmokk, our journey continues north to Gällivare. At this remote station we join the Vy Rail ‘Arctic Circle Train’, a sleeper service that connects northern Sweden and Norway’s Arctic climes with the southern city of Uppsala, just north of Stockholm. Settling down into our comfortable sleeper compartments, we cross the Arctic Circle once again ……

Travelling through the eastern part of Sweden, we arrive in the delightful city of Uppsala, with free time to explore the castle, cathedral and lovely parks. Our farewell dinner his evening will be in a local restaurant.

The Hotel Jokkmokk is a contemporary hotel set in the heart of Swedish Lapland amongst green surroundings by Lake Talvatis and just 8 minutes’ walk from Jokkmokk Station. Night Train Sleeper Cabins
The ‘Arctic Circle’ sleeper train is operated by Sweden’s Vy Rail. Compartments are 3-berth, to be occupied by either one (single guests) or two (twin/double guests) of the berths in each compartment (lower berth and/or an upper berth). As usual, storage & washing facilities are available in each compartment, with shared shower & toilet facilities in the corridor.
