1125     Arrive Stockholm Airport to meet our guide, Ingrid, for the transfer by Arlanda Express (30mins) to Stockholm and the Clarion Amaranten Hotel. As check-in is normally 3pm, we will drop off our luggage at the hotel before taking the tram to the Old Town/Gamla Stan for lunch and a guided tour of this beautiful historic area with Ingrid. We will return to the hotel later in the afternoon for check-in, relaxation and dinner.

Day 2 – Mid-Summers day!

Arguably Scandinavia’s most attractive capital city, our 2-night stay in Stockholm includes a Stockholm transport ticket allowing us to travel for free throughout the city.
An optional Boat Cruise with included lunch (circa £35pp). A guided tour of the  amazing must-see Vasa Museum is also scheduled for this afternoon (the 64-gun warship Vasa is the only intact 17th-century ship that has ever been salvaged. It sank on her maiden voyage in 1628). Circa £14pp.
You are of course welcome to spend time to explore Stockholm at your own pace, using your included Stockholm transport pass.

Wednesday 22 June                     STOCKHOLM to UPPSALA          1n               B, D

Known as the ‘spiritual heart’ of Sweden, our knowledgeable tour guide, Ingrid, will show us the wonderful sights of , Stockholm, one of Sweden’s oldest historical cities, which boasts the largest Gothic style cathedral and oldest university, dating back to 1477.  It is also one of the country’s most dynamic cities, attracting a large student population, bringing its ancient past present and future together as one.                                       

Day 4       
Thursday 23 June                        UPPSALA to GAMMELSTAD, Lulea      1n                  B, L

As the overnight sleeper train journey northwards can be long and tiring we’re taking a short internal flight from Stockholm Airport (Arlanda) to Gammelstad (Lulea Airport) up to the Arctic Circle. On arrival, we will be offered a 2-course lunch at a small wooden cabin on the beach front, where the sun can be watched late into the night! Luleå sits on the coast in Swedish Lapland. It’s known for the Gammelstad Church Town, a cluster of well-preserved red wooden houses and a stone Nederluleå Church from the 1400s. Offshore, in the Bay of Bothnia, are more than 1,000 islands with beaches, cottages and seals. Junkön Island has a museum and an 18th-century windmill.

Day 5       
Friday 24 June                               GAMMELSTAD to GÄLLIVARE                1n                 B, TBC

Today we will visit Ájtte, the Swedish Mountain & Sami Museum, Lapland’s cultural & natural history museum. Ajtte specializes in the culture and nature of the mountainous area of Northern Sweden, and is the main museum and archive for the Sami culture of Sweden. We will also experience the Sami culture with a hot drink story-telling and traditional singing at a local Sami village. With a Mid-night sun excursion to the fell of Dundret, it will be the perfect end to a perfect day!

Saturday 25 June                       GALLIVARE to OSTERSUND                        1n                B, D

Today we take the famous Inlandsbanan Train from Gallivare to Ostersund – this special journey is said to be one of the most spectacular rail journeys in the world – and Michael Portillo loves it!

Day 7       
Sunday 26 June                       STOCKHOLM to LONDON                                                    B
      After breakfast we take the high-speed train to Stockholm Arlanda Airport (changing at Gavle) for our flight back to London
