May  2018 – The Jurassic Coast of Dorset – Poole, Swanage Ferry, Swanage, Langton Travers, Corfe Castle, Etches Fossil Collection, Moreton, Lawrence of Arabia grave & The Walled Garden

Our 2018 MYSTERY TOUR  was a great success despite the rather unsettled weather. It was definitely not as hot as we had previously been used to, but everyone enjoyed their ‘mystery’ day and were surprised at how beautiful the JURASSIC COAST in Dorset really is!

With an early start to avoid the traffic and a light breakfast snack on board the coach, our first stop, for coffee and to meet our guide for the day, Andy of Jurassic Jaunts, was at the lovely Sandbanks hotel, The Haven, overlooking Poole Harbour and Old Harry Rocks.
Folliwing coffee, our next mystery adventure was on the chain ferry to the Isle of Purbeck and tours through Swanage, Langton Matravers, Corfe Castle and many other picturesque villages and scenery.
A delicious 2-course Carvery lunch was taken with owner Matt, at the impressive olde worlde New Inn at Church Knowle, but the one of the best surprises was still to come …… at the nearby Etches Fossil Collection museum, where top fossil expert and collector, Steve Etches, was there to help us understand the importance of his fantastic collection, right on our doorstep, from over 150 million years ago! You may have seen the TV coverage recently.
Our final mystery stop was to visit the grave of Lawrence of Arabia at moreton, along with St Nicholas church (known for its 13 spectacular windows engraved by poet and artist, Sir Laurence Whistler) and a walk through the beautiful Walled Garden nearby.
And a the end of the winding path … hey presto …. was a Tea Shop … where of course we just happened to have arranged a light Afternoon Tea of finger sandwiches and fresh cream Dorset scones, for the perfect end to a perfect day!
Congratulations to long standing Privilege club member, Chris Irving, who guessed Corfe Castle correctly in our fun ‘Where are we Going’? Quiz, winning gifts and a £20 voucher.

So where will we go next year? Your guess is as good as mine at the moment!!
