Love a UK Christmas Market? Then our exciting 2022 pre-Christmas Mini Break will enthrall you!

This is your chance to  push the boat out and treat yourself to  a wonderful pre-Christmas break in the beautiful city of BATH and staying in the beautiful 4* Francis Hotel

If you’ve not joined Solent Events before on one of our pre-Christmas Short Breaks, you are in for a real treat and will experience some real gems!

En route we will stop for a unique lunch and guided tour at Chavenage House, Tetbury; a fine example of a well preserved Elizabethan family home in picturesque, rural surroundings. With this quirky family having owned Chavenage House since 1891, the remarkable tales of their extraordinary history during our guided tour, by family members, will have you hanging on every word! With its unique character, long family history and noble connections, it’s also a big attraction for film & TV locations, such as Poldark, The Ghost of Greville Lodge, Poirot and The House of Eliott, to name but a few.

After lunch we travel on to Bath for check-in at our Regency-style Hotel, where heritage and history meet modern design.  The Francis Hotel is immersed in the heart of a World Heritage Site, where, on arrival, you will be met by Regency opulence, a friendly team and the opportunity to enjoy authentic Moroccan cuisine in the stunning Boho Marché restaurant, bar and lounge.

The upscale 4* FRANCIS HOTEL boasts a prime central position just one block from the Jane Austen Centre,  10 minutes’ walk of the town, the Roman Baths and the Christmas Markets.
Eclectic, colourful bedrooms feature flat-screen TVs, free WiFi and tea & coffee making facilities. Upgraded rooms add 4-poster beds, minibars and espresso machines (please ask for a quote).

The fashionable brasserie serves delicious Afternoon Teas.

You will be able to explore Bath and its wonderful Christmas Markets to your hearts content, but there are also many iconic places that should bnot be missed – The famous Roman Baths, Sally Lunn’s Teashop, Royal Crescent & The Circus, Victoria Art Gallery & Victoria Botanical Gardens, to name but a few!  There is also a Hop-on-Hop-off bus which may be of interest to those who want to see as much of the city as possible without walking!

Francis Hotel Heritage
No colour represents Bath, quite like aqua. What’s more, the blue tint of this Roman and Georgian glassware displayed at the Francis Hotel reflects the healing minerals used in many of the city’s spas. First opened as Townhouses, it was transformed into a boarding house in 1858 by local builder Soloman Francis as No 10 Queen Square. It was later re-opened in 1884 with much celebration following its expansion through No 6 to No 11, as the Francis Private Hotel. Mrs Emily Francis, widow of Soloman Francis, was able to expand her business, progressively taking over seven of the adjacent residences until May 1884. In 1942, during WWII, part of the property’s original frontage was destroyed by a 500kg bomb in the Bath Blitz. Despite the devastation, this historic hotel was restored to its former 18th century glory.

Originally, it was John Wood the Elder, creator of Bath’s many prestigious buildings, who designed Francis Hotel’s now Grade I listed building from 1728 to 1735. As seen across his celebrated designs, he had a passion for classical architecture, apparent with the seamlessly interconnected townhouses that make up this prestigious Hotel today.
In 2012, the Francis Hotel enjoyed an extensive restoration that has since transformed the building into a unique Regency-inspired townhouse hotel, combining 21st century elegance with the splendour of its historic past.
