VIENNA CHRISTMAS MARKETS

Sunday 06 December 2020
4 days

The Christmas Markets  in Vienna are some of the very best in Europe. The unique backdrop gives this market a charm of its own, and the delicious aromas are sure to lull all visitors into the seasonal joy. Just magical! The Viennese Dream Christmas Market in front of the City Hall (Rathaus) is an unforgettable highlight of a trip to Vienna at Christmas time.

Vienna offers imperial elegance and baroque beauty as the backdrop to its festive celebrations and bustling Christmas markets.  You could do what the Viennese do and head to a traditional coffee house to warm up and sip a hot, milky mélange coffee.

We will be staying at the fabulous grandiose 19th-century Bellevue Hotel (TBC), with easy access to the heart of Vienna and the famous Christmas Markets. For a high-end vibe that’s distinctly Viennese, there’s no denying that the 19th-century, antique-filled Hotel Bellevue Vienna delivers urban luxury on a grand scale.

“Located next to the regional Franz Josef train station, this hotel is just a stone’s throw from the Liechtenstein Garden Palace surrounded by a pretty  garden. The City Centre can be reached in just 10-15 minutes by tramway D, which stops right next to the hotel. You still feel a bit of the splendid times the hotel presented in the 19th century – even Sigmund Freud stayed there for some time!”

Being within easy access of Vienna’s show stopping sights means you have the choice to marvel at the fabulous Vienna State Opera and the Baroque beauty of the Schönbrunn Palace. Get caught up in the sophisticated city. Explore the Hofburg Palace, Michaelerplatz Square and Belvedere Museum, before returning to the hotel’s all-day restaurant for authentic regional and international cuisine. Its location is very special – just moments away from Liechtenstein Palace, a few minutes’ walk from the Franz Josefs Bahnhof train station and less than a 10-minute tram ride to the very heart of this elegant city.

There’s also a chandelier-studded bar perfect for relaxed anytime drinks, and should you fancy squeezing in a workout, there’s even a fitness room.

Flaunting its fabulous new looks following a recent top-to-toe makeover, all of the 160 guest rooms seamlessly mix traditional boudoir-chic – rich hues, lavish fabrics, plush carpeted flooring, high ceilings – with modern comforts. Expect double beds dressed with deluxe linens, plus great bathrooms and all the necessary amenities.

NB. Twin rooms are still the authentic Austrian style – a double bed frame with 2 separate mattresses & separate bed linen.

Of course Vienna becomes even more magical during the Christmas season, when festive markets line the city’s squares with stalls of food, hot drinks, and artisanal gifts. The markets normally open from around mid-November until 01 January.

You also have the chance to visit the famous Spanish Riding School – during the morning of our last day in Vienna. You can pre-book an inclusive visit with Solent Events (see booking form) or of course you are welcome to book with the venue yourself if you wish.

Morning Exercise & Guided Tour (pre-bookable with Solent Events)
Wednesday 09 December
TICKET PLUS – £25 senior; £33 adult
1000 – 1200 morning exercise viewing
1300 – 1 hr guided tour

As our tour does not coincide with a full performance of these beautiful horses, we do have the opportunity of viewing the world-famous Lipizzans – White Stallions – before we leave Vienna with a training session and a guided tour in the unique, baroque Winter Riding School at Hofburg Palace, built under Charles VI.

Morning Exercise The daily training for the high school. The morning exercise offers an insight into the training of the riders and their Lipizzans. You can watch the training of both the often grey young stallions and the fully-trained School stallions – white stars” – in the beautiful setting of the Winter Riding School, accompanied by classical Viennese music.

The morning exercise includes relaxation exercises, the refining and perfecting of lessons and the targeted strengthening of muscles.

In order to protect the horses, the famous School Jumps, which are shown during the
performances, are not practised on a daily basis and are only occasionally seen during the morning exercise.

Guided Tour: Take a look behind the scenes, with an exclusive tour of the Spanish Riding School.  You will visit the unique baroque Winter Riding School, the Summer Riding School, with one of the world’s largest oval horse walkers, and also the stables of the Lipizzan stallions, which have been housed in one of Vienna’s most prominent Renaissance buildings, the Stallburg, for more than 450 years.

You will see the various locations that make up the special charm of this historic institution and you will learn the history, the equestrian traditions and all about the stars – the Lipizzan stallions!

For your comfort, a max number of 35 passengers will apply to this exclusive Solent Events Short Break (the maximum for most tour companies is more often than not, 49!).
