You can spend a whole day relaxing and exploring the colourful stalls of the unique underground Valkenburg Velvet Cave Market and the equally magical Town Cave Market nearby. With a full day excursion to the coastal town of Delft, you are guaranteed a wonderful, relaxing few days in Europe. Follow the scent of roasting chestnuts to the Christmas Markets set in the beautifully lit caves that run underneath the town and a just a short walk from our hotel. Considered to be the largest and oldest underground Christmas Market in Europe, you will be sure to tick off that Christmas shopping list with special gifts that you can’t get on the high-street. Peruse the charming stall and select beautiful Dutch handicrafts, authentic cuisine and festive decorations as you go.
Our hotel is also a favourite – The 4* Hampshire Classic Voncken Hotel, situated in a quiet square right in the centre of the town and just a few minutes’ walk from the Christmas Market caves.The hotel is family run (for over 100 years), typically Dutch, very friendly and best of all, centrally situated in Valkenburg aan de Geul, the oldest tourist town of the Netherlands. The hotel is within a few minutes walking distance through cobbled streets to the sparkling centre of Valkenburg, with cafés, restaurants, boutiques and sightseeing points such as the Mergel Rijk cave, Steenkolenmijn Coalmine, the Holland Casino, museum and attractive parks.
The past few years have seen a magical Valkenburg Christmas Parade each Wednesday & Saturday, leading up to Christmas, so we are aiming to be there in 2017 – after our excursion to Delft!
