Solent Events prides itself as an excellent choice if you are on your own, for both ladies & gentlemen. We know and care about how difficult it is to travel if you are alone, so not only do we offer a ‘sharing service’ if you would like to keep the cost down and ‘find a friend’ to share with, but because 99% of our clients are from the local area, new clients normally know someone on the trip, or if not, make new, like-minded friends very quickly.
As Lin personally escorts every Trip and Tour, she will ensure you are never on your own during free time, meals or excursions – unless of course you want to be!
No! We know this is a bone of contention with many people when travelling with other coach companies.
Our last pick-up is Fareham. We are then off on our journey! We pick up from just FOUR local stops, plus the coach depot where the coach leaves from.
The pick-ups & drop-offs are always the same – Coliseum Coach Depot, Southampton (unless when using a Luxury Mini-Coach); Gosport (Stokes Bay); Lee on the Solent (bus stop opposite the seafront shops); Stubbington (Red Lion) and lastly, Fareham (Peak Lane).
It is important to be aware of the amount of walking involved and the degree of fitness and mobility required to take part in our sightseeing visits, excursions and tours, so we are happy to give you advice and information if it is not included in the itinerary details.
Our Away-Days and Tours often have a comprehensive sightseeing content, visiting places with cobbled streets, inclines and medium to long walking distances, sometimes on rough ground. This can make navigating some streets, or keeping up with the group, difficult for anyone with reduced mobility, so please ensure this is stated on your enquiry or booking form at the outset so we can advise.
We endeavour to highlight Away-Days & Holidays which may not be suitable for customers with limited mobility, but if you would like further information, please do contact us.
No. We know that this is something most of the large coach companies are now doing, but we feel that this could easily cause delays and in turn, some irritable passengers! As we are all local, we often offer a ‘taxi share’ service if required, when clients can team up to meet the coach for a ‘Tour’ departure.
As a lot of work is involved in taking a deposit and chasing balance payments, full payment is preferred at time of booking, BUT please do ask if you would prefer to pay deposit to confirm your Away-Day or Theatre booking (normally around 50%). You may be on a budget or are booking several events at the same time and we do understand that not everyone has a large ‘leisure account’ to draw on!
As many of the Theatre Trip and Away-Days tend to sell very quickly, please remember that all verbal/email bookings are classed as ‘provisional’ and could be sold if payment is not forthcoming within a few days. If paying by BACS, it will be noted within a few days and a receipt sent by email (or post of no email).
AWAY-DAYS & THEATRES: If a deposit is paid, the balance is due approximately 5 -6 weeks before departure (unless otherwise stated ).
TOURS: A deposit is always taken for tours and paid to the Tour Operator, but not if booked after ‘balance due date’ (approx 12/14 weeks before departure).
NB. For your peace of mind and financial security, all tours over 24 hours are booked through our preferred, highly reputable Tour Operators.
ALL THEATRE TRIPS & AWAY-DAYS can be paid by BACS transfer (details on booking form) or by telephoning Solent Events with your debit or credit card (no charge) with full payment or a deposit if agreed – to confirm your booking . €€€
TOURS can be paid by debit card or credit card over the phone.
Of course we hope that you will not have anything to complain about, but in the unlikely event that you do, you can be assured that it will be handled promptly and personally by Lin. Whether it is something Solent Events or a ‘third party’ has slipped up on, it will be managed with the utmost care and professionalism.
Lots of things! Mainly the totally personal, reliable and professional service. We also take pride in the variety and quality of our venues and destinations. We like to go somewhere ‘different’ and ‘secret’ if we can. Somewhere you may not have heard of or somewhere you have only ever dreamed of visiting -for instance, The Ritz for Afternoon Tea or Dinner or a day with Lunch on the Orient Express – we make these affordable for everyone to enjoy at least once in their lifetime! Many of the exciting Away-Days are also inclusive of early morning breakfast treats, morning coffee, lunch, dinner, drinks, & Afternoon Tea.
No, here is NO MEMBERSHIP FEE to join Solent Events on their many Theatre Trips, Away-Days and Tours but in 2016 an Adventure Club was launched for the 45-65’s (or FIT over 65s!), with a joining fee of £10 (single) and £20 (couple) per year for a full 12 months.

Our current Privilege Members Club has been active since November 2009 with a maximum of 50 clients at any one time. Members pay an annual fee of £30 for solos and £56 for couples.
Privilege Club members live between Portsmouth and Southampton, book at least 4 trips per year and relish the friendships built up within the group. They are lovers of escorted group travel and appreciate the many PMC benefits: Favourite Coach Seats; Best of the Best Theatre Seats; numerous Event & Tour Discounts; Complimentary Theatre Invitations (when available); Bi-monthly, Members-Only Local Lunches and Excursions; Pre-sale and Priority Reservations; Travel Companion Matching and Low Deposit payment if required.
YOUR CONTRACT: At the time of booking, you must complete and sign the Booking Form agreeing to accept the conditions as set out herein. Your contract is entered into on the terms and conditions of the Booking Form. The completed booking form must be received accompanied by the appropriate full payment or deposit (if required), at which time and subject to availability, your contract will be made with us.
PAYMENT: No booking can be accepted as ‘confirmed’ unless accompanied by full payment (or agreed deposit) followed by a written/email confirmation/receipt is activated by Solent Events. The correct booking form is required for each booking. Payment can be made by BACS Transfer (preferred) or by telephoning Solent Events with debit/credit card details (no charge). NB. If payment is not received within 48 hours of booking (or pre-agreed time), reserved places will automatically be released.
PRICES: The price of your trip is subject to variation by reference to elements covering fuel, government taxes and any other additional costs not in place when the booking was made. The company will however, absorb up to 2% of any increase in the price of your trip attributed to any such items and no surcharges will be made less than SEVEN days before the stipulated departure date.
INSURANCE: It is a condition of all bookings with the company that adequate personal insurance is taken out by all clients, with the exception of 1-day trips.
FITNESS TO TRAVEL: It is a booking condition that you should be fit and completely well to travel. We strive to give all our clients full care and attention, but we need to know at the time of booking about any special needs or requirements, especially if you need specialist equipment, such as a wheelchair/mobility scooter (if available) on site. Unfortunately many of our trips are unsuitable for wheelchair users. If you have suffered from a serious medical condition recently, you should consult a doctor about your fitness to travel.
CHANGING YOUR BOOKING: If you need to change any of the arrangements specified on the booking form, we will do all we can to accommodate your new requirements. An alteration fee of £10 per person may be charged for any change to cover administration costs, except in the period prior to 6 weeks of departure, when the alteration will be free of charge.
CANCELLATIONS: If you need to cancel your trip after your booking has been confirmed, you must inform the company in writing as soon as possible.
IF YOU WISH TO CANCEL, OUR CANCELLATION CHARGE TO YOU:

CANCELLATIONS OR AMENDMENTS BY US: Trips are based on an economic minimum number of passengers. Should this not be reached, it may be necessary to either: a) cancel the service and refund any monies paid, or b) levy a surcharge on those still requiring the service.
COVID-19 If an Away-Day or Theatre Trip is POSTPONED to another date, you will be informed asap of the new date, which hopefully you will be able to accept with no further action or monies required.
If the Away-Day or Theatre Trip is CANCELLED completely, you will be offered a credit voucher towards ANY future trip with Solent Events, OR a full refund paid back on to your credit or debit card within 4-weeks of your written cancellation request being received.
RESPONSIBILITY OF THE COMPANY: All tickets issued and arrangements made in connection with this trip are made by the company as agents and not as principal. The company accepts no liability for any death, injury, damage, loss, accident or delay arising from any act or default of any person or any matter arising in connection with the trip, and the company makes no warranty or representation in connection therewith. Any accommodation and transport are provided subject to local laws. Personal property is at owner’s risk.
FORCE MAJEURE: Solent Events shall not be liable for any delay or failure in performing any of its obligations if such a delay or failure is caused by circumstances outside the reasonable control of the company (including without limitation any delay caused by any act or default by the other party).
LAW AND JURISDICTION: The contract between the Company and the Client incorporating these booking conditions, and our booking confirmation shall be governed by the English law and both parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
YOUR TOUR CONTRACT
Your tour has been organised by the Groups department of a reputable Tour Company, who are fully bonded for your protection.
At the time of booking, you must complete the Online Booking Form or complete and sign a hard-copy Booking Form agreeing to accept the conditions as herein set out. Your contract is entered into on the terms and conditions of the Booking Form. The completed booking form must be received accompanied by the appropriate deposit payment or full payment payable to the appropriate Tour Operator, at which time, and subject to availability, your contract with them is made.

PAYMENT: No booking can be accepted unless accompanied by the full payment or specified deposit to the appropriate Tour Operator (to secure your place) with the balance being paid strictly by date on booking form.
FITNESS TO TRAVEL* : It is a booking condition that you should be fit and well to travel. We strive to give all our clients full care & attention, but we need to know at the time of booking about any special needs or requirements. Unfortunately, our coaches & tours are not suitable for wheelchair users. If you have suffered from a serious medical condition recently, you should consult a doctor about your fitness to travel. PRICES: Prices for tours are valid at time of going to press. The price of your tour is subject to variation by reference to elements covering tunnel costs, fuel, taxes and exchange rates if applicable. The company will however, absorb up to 2% of any increase in the price of your tour attributed to any such items and no surcharges will be made less than ten days before the stipulated departure date unless absolutely unavoidable.
INSURANCE: It is a condition of all bookings with the company that adequate personal insurance is taken out by all clients and appropriate to the part of the world being visited.
CHANGING YOUR BOOKING: If you need to change any of the arrangements specified on the booking form, we will do all we can to accommodate your new requirements. An alteration fee of £25 per person may be charged for any change to cover administration costs, except in the period prior to 6 weeks of departure, when the alteration will be free of charge.
AMENDMENTS BY US: This tour is normally based on an economic minimum number of passengers. Should this not be reached, it may be necessary to either:
a). cancel the service and refund any monies paid, or,
b). levy a surcharge on those still requiring the service.
The company reserves the right to alter the quoted hotel accommodation to hotels of the same grade, or the tour itinerary, as necessary.
CANCELLATIONS: If YOU need to cancel your tour after your booking has been confirmed, you must inform the company in writing as soon as possible. All deposit payments made to the company are deemed non-refundable, and an administrative cost may be added. After the balance has been paid, up to 100% of the cost may be incurred if travel is cancelled less than six weeks before departure, depending on the tour. These payments may be claimed from your insurance company. Please ask for cancellation charge details of your chosen tour.
RESPONSIBILITY OF THE COMPANY: All tickets issued and arrangements made in connection with this tour are made by the company as ‘agents’ and not as ‘principal’.

COVID-19 If a tour is POSTPONED to another date, you will be informed asap of the new date, which hopefully you will be able to accept with no further action (any balances due would then be changed to a date approx 12-weeks before the new departure date).
If a tour is CANCELLED completely, you will be offered a full refund by the Tour Operator paid back on to your credit or debit card within the time schedule set by the company in their Covid-19 Terms & Conditions prevailing at the time.

Towels in Italy
Some hotels & guest houses in Italy still offer hand towels similar to our thin cotton ‘tea towels’ which obviously do not absorb well. For your comfort, opt to pack a small fluffy hand towel!

Expedition 100+ Deet Insect Repellent Spray 50ml. It is effective for over 10 hours and was a god-send for me on the Amazon in Peru and on Safari in South Africa. Buy from www.lifesystems.co.uk £6.99
Make at home and refill your small bottles:
100ml glass pump bottle (Superdrug) OK for hand luggage
10 drops Lavender oil
6 drops Lemongrass oil
25 drops of Tea Tree oil
6 teaspoons Aloe Vera gel (Superdrug)
12 teaspoons grain alcohol eg Vodka or witch hazel
1 tsp Vitamin E oil
DIRECTIONS TO MAKE
Mix oils in a small glass bowl and swirl to mix.
Add witch hazel or alcohol to the oils and swirl again.
Combine mixture with the aloe vera gel. Mix well.
Transfer hand sanitiser to small, clean spray bottles. (Coloured bottles are best so the essential oils in the recipe are not exposed to light. Shake gently before each use.
Mix up a batch for home and keep in a larger container with a pump. Sanitiser should last several months with the vitamin E and alcohol, which helps to preserve.
DIRECTIONS TO USE HAND SANITISER
Spray enough sanitiser to cover your hands (2-3 sprays), rub thoroughly and do not wipe off as it dries quickly. Use as needed to naturally remove germs from hands.
HOW THE HAND SANITISER FEELS
Considering the ingredients include vitamin e and three essential oils, you might be surprised that your hands will not feel oily. In fact, your hands will feel clean and soft when the spray dries.
Tip for using essential oils: Essential oils are potent plant extracts and people do experience allergic reactions to them. If you are unsure about using any of the above oils, mix a few drops with a tablespoon of grape seed or olive oil and rub right below the crook of your elbow. Cover and let it sit for 24 hours to make sure you’re good to go.
